How to Play

Setting up

Spread the numbered barrels around your space — the further apart, the harder the course. Use trees, garden furniture and flowerbeds as hazards. Place a tee marker for each hole.

The rules

  1. Take turns teeing off from the marker for Hole 1.
  2. Chip toward the barrel. Play your next shot from where your ball lands.
  3. Your hole is finished when the ball lands in the barrel and stays there.
  4. Count every shot. Lowest total after all holes wins.

House rules to try

  • Max 6: If you haven't sunk it in 6, pick up and score 6.
  • Hole-in-one bonus: Knock 2 shots off your total.
  • Scramble: Play in teams, everyone hits, play from the best ball.
  • Night golf: Add glow sticks to the barrels for a twilight round.

Tips

  • A lofted club (wedge or 9-iron) works best.
  • Short, soft swings beat big ones.
  • Set the first hole short so beginners score early.
